Formed in 2016, the Piscataway Progressive Democratic Organization (PPDO), is an all-volunteer, grassroots community organization built and sustained by working families in our community. In the wake of Donald Trump's first election, residents from around our diverse, dynamic Township came together to fight for democracy in our community and across our country. We oppose the MAGA agenda and are workign to ensure that our leaders do everything in their power to resist rising authoritarianism. Many of us had already been engaged in efforts to strengthen our schools, and we transformed that loose coalition into the PPDO.

 

Our members have led and supported numerous intiatives that improve transparency in our local government, increase accountability from our leaders and eliminate the nepotism and cronyism that plagues our politics. We worked to end the "County Line," the corrupt ballot design that empowered Party bosses instead of voters. In addition to organizing and mobilizing around issues, our members are dedicated to transforming the Democratic Party and restoring its mission to be a bulwark for working families. We overturned a 70 year old ban on the number of women and LGTBQ folks who can serve as Party representatives and bringing new voices to the Party. We have fielded candidates in nearly every Democratic primary since 2017, from county committee members who represent their neighborhood, to the Township Council, where we elected two new members last year, to the Mayor, the Legislature and the Governor's race.

 

PPDO is proud to be a local Indivisible affiliate, and to have led numerous the No Kings and related events to oppose Trump's plans. We will continue to organize neighbors and candidates who share our values and our committment to preserving and expanding democracy, ending the corruption tax on our communities and ensuring that Piscataway is a safe, affordable place for everyone to live, work and thrive.
